ラスベガスは俺のもの。ゼニマックス，「Fallout 3」の待望の続編，「Fallout: New Vegas」を2010年11月4日に発売

　ゼニマックス・アジアは2008年にリリースされた「Fallout 3」（PC/PlayStation 3/Xbox 360）の続編となる「Fallout: New Vegas」を2010年11月4日に発売することを明らかにした。対応機種はPlayStation 3とXbox 360で，価格は現在のところ未定。


　Fallout 3は，核戦争後の崩壊した世界を舞台にした，過酷なサバイバルを描いたRPGで，悪に染まろうが正義のために生きようがてんでかまわない自由度の高さや，プレイヤーの行動がゲーム世界に影響を与え，ストーリー展開がどんどん変わっていく奥深いシステム，そして全編を覆うブラックユーモアなどから欧米を中心に大ヒットした作品だ。メディアやプレイヤーの評価も非常に高く，4Gamerでも「荒野に咲いた一輪の花」という，今にして思えばかなり妙なタイトルの連載を，8回にわたって掲載している。


　発売後，ダウンロードコンテンツが次々に登場したので，2年も前のタイトルだったのかという気はあまりしないFallout 3だが，いよいよ続編の登場ということでファンの期待も高まっている。
　タイトルどおり，続編の舞台となるのは“虚栄の街”ラスベガスを中心としたアメリカ中西部。地上の放射能を避け，生存者の子孫が地下のシェルターで暮らす東海岸と異なり，なんと，この一帯は核戦争の影響をほとんど受けていないというから，意表を突きまくった設定だ。というわけで，主人公はシェルター出身ではなく，青空の下に生まれている。
　もっとも，文明が崩壊してしまったため，激しい生存競争を生き残らなければならないのは前作同様。背景となる土地の雰囲気と相まって，SFウェスタンという風情だ。
　ゲームについて現在分かっていることについては，6月に開催されたE3のレポートに詳しいので，ぜひ参照してほしい。


　そんなFallout: New Vegasのほか，Splash Damageの「Brink」（PlayStation 3/Xbox 360）や，inXile Entertainmentが制作を進める「Hunted: The Demon’s Forge」（PlayStation 3/Xbox 360）など，海外ゲームファンなら見逃せない錚々たるラインナップを誇るゼニマックス・アジア。今回，Fallout: New Vegasの国内発売日に加えて，BrinkとHunted: The Demon’s Forgeが2011年内に発売される予定であること，また，Brinkのマルチプレイ人数が，Co-op（協力プレイ）で最大7人，対戦モードで最大16人が参加できることなども発表されている。
　現在のところ，これ以上のことが発表されていないのが残念だが，続報に期待してほしい。
