［GDC 2014］「Game Developers Choice Awards」で久夛良木 健氏が生涯功労賞を受賞。Game of the Yearは「The Last Of Us」に

　サンフランシスコで開催中のGame Developers Conference 2014（以下，GDC 2014）で，北米時間の2013年3月19日，恒例となる「Game Developers Choice Awards」の発表会が開かれた。これは，約500名のゲーム関係者達の投票により，優れた作品を選出するというものだ。

　2014年の「Game of the Year」に輝いたのは，PlayStation 3向けサバイバルアクション「The Last Of Us」。同作は，「Best Design」「Best Narrative」にも選ばれて三冠を達成している。


　また，Game Developers Choice Awardsでは，Lucas Pope氏のインディーズゲーム「Papers, Please」が，「Innovation Award」「Best Downloadable Game」を受賞している。さらに，同時開催されたインディーズゲームの祭典「2014 Independent Games Festival」でも3つの賞を獲得し，存在感を示していた点は特記しておきたい。
　約3時間のイベント中，計5回も壇上で受賞の喜びを述べることになったPope氏は，Best Downloadable Game受賞の後で「Papers, Pleaseは40MBしかありませんから（容量の少なさが評価されたのでしょう）」と述べ，笑いを誘っていた。

　そのほか，2014年1月29日に掲載した記事でお伝えしたように，PlayStationの生みの親として知られる久夛良木 健氏が，「Lifetime Achievement Winner」（生涯功労賞）に選ばれているのもトピックだ。ちなみに，久夛良木氏の登場前，同氏の功績を紹介するというムービーが流れたのだが，これが「Kutaragi's Way」というノイズが入りまくりの妙なB級映画仕立てになっており，銃を手にした久夛良木氏（※外国人俳優が演じている）が，邪魔なライバルを次々に抹殺し，最後は某社（※書きづらい）のCEOに怒りの銃弾を浴びせるという内容だった。
　いうまでもなく，会場はやんやの喝采。ノリが良すぎる。

B級映画風の妙なムービー

　プレゼンターのMark Cerny（マーク・サーニー）氏に招かれて登壇した久夛良木氏は，当時「リアルタイム3Dのゲームなど無理だ」といわれていたゲーム業界の常識を，PlayStationでひっくり返した思い出を語り，PlayStationの関係者およびプレイヤーに感謝を述べた。
