「ボーダーランズ3」のクロスプレイがPlayStationプラットフォームでも可能に。「Tales of the Borderlands」続編はGearboxの自社開発へ

　Gearbox Softwareは，本日（2022年4月22日）からマサチューセッツ州ボストン市にて開幕した「PAX East 2022」おいて，恒例となったファン向けプレゼンテーションを行い，「ボーダーランズ3」（PC / PS4 / Xbox One / PS5 / Xbox Series X）のクロスプレイ機能がPlayStationプラットフォームにも対応することをアナウンスした。


　2019年9月にリリースされて以降，今なお定期的にコンテンツアップデートが投入されている「ボーダーランズ3」だが，本作のクロスプレイ対応が2021年6月に実装されたときには，PS5およびPS4は含まれておらず，多くのファンをやきもきさせてきた。現時点で，いつ頃のアップデートでPlayStationへの対応が行われるのかは明確にされていないものの，これによりプラットフォームを越えたエコシステムが完成することになる。

　また，登壇したGearbox Softwareのランディ・ピッチフォード（Randy Pitchford）氏は，新たな「Tales from the Borderlands」（PC / PS4 / Xbox One / Nintendo Switch）作品の年内リリースを発表。現時点ではタイトルなどの詳細はアナウンスされていないが，2014年にTelltale Gamesが委託開発したオリジナル作品の“ストーリーを重視した方向性”には満足しているものの，その続編を自社開発で行う決定を下したとのこと。


　なお，Deep SilverやKoch Mediaと同じEmbracer Group系列にあるGearbox Softwareだが，そのパブリッシングは前作と同じ2K Gamesが行う予定であるという。続報を楽しみにしておきたいところだ。
