新作アクションRPG「Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor」は，バットマン風のステルスアクションをフィーチャーか

　Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainmentが，1か月ほど前に制作発表を行った新作アクションRPG，「Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor」（PC/PS4/PS3/Xbox One/Xbox 360）のスクリーンショットが公開された。

　「Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor」は，J.R.R.トールキンのファンタジー小説の古典「指輪物語」と，その前日譚にあたる「ホビットの冒険」の間をつなぐオリジナルストーリーを描いた作品で，家族を殺した冥王サウロンへの復讐のために，モルドールの奥深くへと単身で潜入していくレンジャー「Talion」が主人公になる。
　「Nemesis System」というシステムが特徴の一つで，これは，プレイヤーに出会う敵AIが記憶を持っており，二度目に会ったときは戦術を変えて襲ってきたり，プレイヤーより強くなるために鍛錬したりするというもの。
　また，レベルアップやスキルは，弓や剣，そして短剣などの武器を使っていくことで，それぞれの武器に合ったものが獲得できるという。


　すでに公開されたアートワークからは，青白く光る眼を持った主人公が何らかの霊的な力を持っていることが想像できたが，「Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor」では，プレイヤーがバトルで相手に倒されると，単にセーブポイントからやり直すのではなく，しばらく時間を巻き戻してプレイすることになるとのこと。
　今回公開されたスクリーンショットからは，ゴースト化したようなプレイヤーキャラクターの姿も確認でき，このあたりも今後の発表に期待したいところだ。


　Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainmentのヒット作である「Batman」シリーズのようなステルスアクションとしてもプレイできるという。映画の大ヒットで多くのファンを持つ指輪物語だが，ゲーム市場でも依然として我々を楽しませ続けてくれそうだ。
