［Gamescom］Electronic Artsがプレスカンファレンスを開催。Gamescomに登場予定のEAタイトルをまとめて紹介

ドイツのケルンで開催されるゲームイベント，Gamescom 2010。開催前日となる現地時間8月17日16：00，北米のパブリッシャ/デベロッパであるElectronic Artsは，ケルン市内のイベントスペースにおいてプレス向けカンファレンスを開催した。
今回のGamescomで，ケルンメッセと違う場所でこうしたイベントを行うサードパーティはElectronic Artsだけだが，6月のElectronic Entertainment Expoと同様，多数のタイトルを抱えてドイツに乗り込んでおり，やる気まんまんだ。というわけで，発表されたのは以下の13タイトル。
・The Sims 3 on console
・The Sims Medieval
・Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows-Part 1
・Dead Space 2
・Need For Speed Hot Pursuit
・Medal of Honor
・Star Wars: The Old Republic
・Mass Effect 2
・Dragon Age 2
・Crysis 2
・Bulletstorm
・EA SPORTS Active 2
・FIFA 11
残念ながら今回新たに発表された作品はなく，E3で登場したゲームばかりだが，新画像の公開や詳細が明らかになった作品も少なくない。その中から，注目作をいくつかピックアップしよう。
■The Sims Medieval（PC / MAC)

この国を，住民の幸福と豊かな暮らしを目指して統治していくのもよし，恐怖と圧政によって治めていくのもよしと，シムズシリーズならではの自由度の高さも健在。
The Sims Medievalは，PCとMac向けに2011年春の発売が予定されている。

■Dead Space 2（PC /PlayStation 3 / Xbox 360）
 |
だが，いつまでも弱々しい電気技師ではないんだぞ，というのがカンファレンスで公開されたムービーの内容だ。前作は，主に狭い宇宙船内がステージだったが，今回はかなり広大な場所を，足につけたジェットパックで移動することが可能になったようで，宇宙空間での戦闘シーンも確認できた。

さらには，ロケットのようなもので射出され，地上（実際には宇宙ステーション表面）目指して真っ逆さまに降下，途中でさまざまな障害物を間一髪でかわしつつ，建物の屋根を突き破って地上に落ち，すぐにスックと立ち上がるという場面もあり，Isaacの立ち居振る舞いは，まさに兵士のそれだ。
SFホラーだった映画「エイリアン」が，続編の「エイリアン 2」でSF戦争アクションになったように，Dead Space 2もパワーアップした武器や宇宙服などによって，爽快なアクションが楽しめる作品に仕上がりつつあることがよく分かる。
発売は，北米が2011年1月25日，ヨーロッパでは1月28日と発表されている。

■Need For Speed Hot Pursuit(PC / PlayStation 3 / Xbox 360 / Wii）

目玉となるのは，オンラインでいつでもほかのプレイヤーのレースに飛び込んで競うことが可能な，“Autologシステム”だ。プレイデモでは，飛び込んだ相手との手に汗を握るレースが展開されたが，それを邪魔するパトカーが次々に飛び出してきて，まさにカオス状態になる。舞台となる峠道では，タイヤをパンクさせて車を止めるスパイクが道路に敷かれたり，道路封鎖が行われたりしている。それをかいくぐり，追ってくるパトカーを弾き飛ばしたりしていると，さらにはヘリコプターまで登場してくるのだ。

オンラインによるプレイを前面に押し出した，最近のElectronic Artsらしいシリーズ最新作となっている。

■Medal of Honor（PC / PlayStation 3 / Xbox 360）

カンファレンスでは，公式サイト（http://www.medalofhonor.com/）で公開されているムービー「Consulting」があらためて上映され，本作のシングルプレイが，数多くのベテラン兵士の監修による，“リアルな戦場”作りに主眼が置かれたものであることが強調された。
「ゲームにおけるリアルさ」はいささか難しい問題で，それが過ぎるとかえってゲーム性を損なうことがある。ちょっと気にはなるが，いずれにしろ，Gamescomでどのような展示が行われているのかをチェックしたいところだ。

■Dragon Age 2

2009年にPC/PlayStation 3/Xbox 360，そしてMac向けにリリースされたDragon Age: Originsは，まさに「王道RPGまっしぐら」といったタイトル。続編となるDragon Age 2でも，その路線に変更はなく，前作に加えて「改良したゲームエンジンによる，より美しいグラフィックス」「インタフェースの改善などによる，より巧みなストーリーテリング」，そして「さらにダイナミックな戦闘」が開発の主たる眼目になっているとのこと。とくに戦闘シーンでは，プレイヤーの入力に対するキャラクターの反応を改善し，さらに，簡単操作でビッグアクションを繰り出せるようになっているという。

Dragon Age 2もいいけど，スター・ウォーズの世界をテーマにした「Star Wars: The Old Republic」が気になるというMMORPGファンも多いかもしれない。カンファレンスではアートワークが一点公開されただけで“詳細は追って”という雰囲気だが，Muzyka氏によれば，Gamescom会場のElectronic Artsブースで，プレイアブル展示が行われるとのこと。
今回用意されるバージョンで楽しめるのは，本作のイメージとして容易に浮かんでくるフォースやライトセーバーによる戦いではなく，スペースシップ同士の空中戦だ。宇宙空間の戦闘もスター・ウォーズシリーズの重要な要素であるのは間違いなく，BioWareが初めて作り上げたスペースコンバットの様子や，映画をさかのぼること3500年というゲームの時代に，どのような宇宙船が使われていたのかなど，見どころ満載。もうこれはプレイしてみるほかなさそうだ。

また，「Mass Effect 2」（PC / Xbox 360）のPlayStation 3版が，2011年1月に発売されることも明らかにされた。
■Crysis 2（PC / PlayStation 3 / Xbox 360）

アメリカ軍のハイテク戦闘服であるナノスーツ。その最新バージョンであるナノスーツ2.0を使った戦闘は，想像のとおりきわめてダイナミック。スーツのパワーを使って高い場所から敵の背後に飛び降りたり，普通では行けないような場所にジャンプしたり，あるいはクローク機能を使って敵の背後に静かに接近し，首の骨をへし折ったりと，従来のミリタリーFPSのマルチプレイとはひと味もふた味も違う戦闘が可能だ。

8月4日に掲載した記事でお知らせしたように，発売日が2011年に延期されてしまったが，新たに北米では2011年3月22日，ヨーロッパでは3月25日というリリース予定日が発表されている。また，欧米向けにはLimited EditionのほかにNano Editionという豪華パックが用意され，それには，Limited Editionの新武器やアタッチメントといった特典に加え，アートブックやプロフェット隊長のフィギュアなどが付いてくることが明らかにされた。プロフェット隊長のフィギュアはちょっと微妙な気もするが，日本での展開も楽しみだ。

■Bulletstorm(PC / PlayStation 3 / Xbox 360）

敵を倒しつつ進んでいくと，やがて巨大モンスターが姿を現す。“Hekaton”と名付けられたこのモンスター，そのへんのビルよりはるかに大きく，圧巻だ。「Gears of War」シリーズでも巨大モンスターの制作に執念を燃やすEpic Gamesの面目躍如といったところだが，果たして，こんなものをどうやって倒すのか，というところでデモは終了した。

北米での発売日は2011年の2月22日が予定されている。対応機種はPCのほか，PlayStation 3とXbox 360。

長年，赤字と苦闘してきたElectronic Artsだが，8月4日に掲載した記事でもお伝えしたように，2010年第1四半期の業績はようやく黒字に転換し，復調の兆しが見えてきた。PlayStation 3/Xbox 360向けのタイトルが好調であり，またダウンロードコンテンツなど，デジタルダウンロードの売り上げが右肩上がり。モバイル向けのタイトルも好成績をあげており，ここで，もう一歩のジャンプアップを目指したいところだろう。
いずれにしろ，今回のプレスカンファレンスで司会進行を担当した，Electronic Arts European PublishingのVice PresidentであるJens Uwe Intat氏が言うように，Gamescomでは今回紹介されたタイトルの一般展示や，ビハインド・ザ・クローズドドア形式の展示が行われるので，ぜひそれらを楽しんでみたい。各タイトルの詳報をお楽しみに。
