［E for All］「Guitar Hero III」，PC/Mac版も年内発売が決定

　演奏系のカジュアルゲームとして，北米ではActivisionの「Guitar Hero III: Legend of Rock」（以下，Guitar Hero III）とElectronic Artsの「Rock Band」が人気を二分しているが，PCやMacのゲーマーにとって気になるのは，Guitar Hero IIIのほうだろう。このゲームは，現在Aspyr Mediaによって移植が進められているのだが，コンシューマゲーム機でのリリースから遅れること3週間，11月中旬には発売されそうな気配なのだ。
　Guitar Hero IIIのPC版は完全移植であり，先行発売されるXbox 360版と内容面で異なる部分はない。もちろん，Xbox 360用のギターコントローラーをUSBポートに差すことも可能だが，PC/Mac用の専用ギターがバンドルされたバージョンが，リリース予定となっている。

　Guitar Hero IIIは，全体的に前作よりも簡単になっており，キー操作のタイミングが多少狂っても，それほどペナルティが科せられなくなった。これは，PC版から始める初心者にとって，かなりありがたい仕様だが，別にゲームが全体的にヌルくなったというのではなく，キャリアモードをこなしていくうえでメリハリをつけたのだとのこと。キャリアモードの後半は，コンボを何度も繰り出さなければならないなど難しくなっていく。もちろん，難易度は調整できるわけだが。

　Guitar Hero IIIの魅力の一つがマルチプレイヤーモードで，これはもう1本ギターを接続して，一つの画面上で行う。ストリングが切れたり，アンプがオーバーロードになったりといったイベントもあれば，相手のギターを強制的に左利き向けにするというようなパワーもあり，かなり白熱した対戦になりそうだ。
　同封される楽曲は1970年代から現代までの70曲ほどで，Metalicaの「One」やGuns N' Rosesの「Welcome to the Jungle」，そしてPearl Jamの「Even Flow」やRage Against the Machineの「Bulls on Parade」など，バラエティに富んだ選曲が行なわれている。まだ正確なリリース予定日や価格は決まっていないが，アメリカで起きているGuitar Hero旋風は，果たしてPCにも波及するだろうか？
