荒廃した地球でエイリアンと戦うRTS，「Maelstrom」発表

　海外ゲームパブリッシャ/デベロッパのCodemastersは，未来の地球を舞台にエイリアンと戦うSF設定のRTS新作「Maelstrom」を，2006年後半に発売すると発表した。

　Maelstromは，資源がほぼ枯渇した未来の地球を舞台に，地球へ資源を求めて来襲したエイリアンと人間との戦いを描いている。
　地球を防衛しなければならない人間側も，元アメリカ陸軍のJames Buchanan将軍に率いられる"The Remnants"と，Ascension Industries社によって組織された"The Ascension"という二大勢力に分裂して争っているため，エイリアンを含めた三つ巴の戦いとなっている。
　プレイヤーは，この三種類の勢力のどれかを率いてほかの勢力と戦い，勝利を目指すことになる。

　開発元はKDV Games。このデベロッパはロシアに本拠を置く会社で，2004年にはK-D LAB Companyの名義でSFストラテジーゲーム「Perimeter」を開発している。
　ゲームの公式サイトは公開されていないようだが，GamersHell.comには，最新スクリーンショット6点が掲載されている。（朝倉哲也）
